Robert G. Coates has practiced law in Toronto, since 1981, when he was called to the Bar of Ontario, and became a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada.

His work in Estate Law as an Estate Lawyer emphasises his training in Estates and Trusts over the 20 plus years since he commenced his practice. He is a member of the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners (STEP CANADA), and was an instructor, for many years, in the Estate Section for the Ontario Bar Admissions course. He is as capable in Estate Planning and Administration, as he is in the area of Estate Litigation and he is well versed in the taxation of trusts and estates.

He is certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in Estates and Trusts Law - specifically in Estate Planning and Estate Administration.

His work in Family Law includes representation of parents in child welfare matters. He has also represented the Children's Aid Society in matters under the Child and Family Services Act. He is well versed in the procedures of family court, including petitions for divorce and claims for child.

Real Estate has always been a part of Robert G. Coates’ practice, including purchases, sales, financing and refinancing.

Mr. Coates has extensive knowledge in the areas of Mental Health and Consent and Capacity Issues, and in particular, appearances before the Consent and Capacity Board, and the Ontario Review Board.

Mr. Coates can also provide you with legal advice when starting a business. He will incorporate a company for you, draft a partnership or shareholder agreement or set up a sole proprietorship, after advising you of your options.
